Sawing and automated material handling specialist Kasto has received accreditation under the SAFEcontractor scheme.
The scheme recognises the highest standards of health and safety practice among UK contractors.
More than 130 of Britain's increasingly safety-conscious large businesses, including many top names in manufacturing, use the scheme as their principal means of selecting over 13,000 registered contractors. Major organisations are increasingly reluctant to run the risk of employing firms that are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies.
Under the SAFEcontractor scheme, suppliers of contract services undergo a vetting process that examines their health and safety procedures and track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered employer organisations via www.safecontractor.com.
These companies agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those contractors that have received accreditation. It enables them to vet potential suppliers before they set foot on site, helping the employer companies to protect their reputations as well as reduce injuries and accidents on their premises. It also helps to secure less expensive insurance cover.
