Japan machine tool orders show first increase for 19 months

Preliminary figures released by the Japan Machine Tool Builders' Association show that orders rose 62.8%, year-on-year, to ¥60.04 billion (£404 million) in December, marking the first increase in 19 months.

Domestic orders climbed 16.2%, to ¥17.88 billion (£121 million), up for the first time in 23 months, while export orders saw a massive 96.2% rise, to ¥42.16 billion (£283 million), the second consecutive monthly increase.
