Investment in new thermal spray capability for ASG Group

1 min read

AMF Precision Engineering has announced the acquisition of thermal spray capability system, used in conjunction with a state-of-the-art 6-axis Kuka robot, to help meet growing demand for high-quality thermal spray coatings for aerospace components within the ASG Group customer base.

The new thermal spray capability is a significant investment for AMF Precision Engineering, reflecting the company's commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for the aerospace industry.

The Kuka robot operates the spray gun itself, with parts secured to a turntable bed, controlled by the robot to ensure an even coating over the parts. The whole process takes place within a large soundproofed extraction booth to minimise the risk of explosion from the aluminium dust created and limit the operators' exposure to the high decibel operating level.

Sasha Edge, director of AMF Precision Engineering said: “Our in-house team of experienced programmers will handle the robot programming that operates alongside this new thermal spray system, allowing us to quickly turn around new toolpaths when required.

"This particular application can control the thickness of the deposition along with the actual surface roughness achieved, resulting in a wide range of applications for our world class customers growing needs.”

"AMF Precision Engineering is excited to add this new capability to our range of aerospace engineering solutions," said Simon Weston, managing director of ASG Group.

"Our investment in this state-of-the-art system demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the latest technology, high-quality service, and innovative solutions. The new thermal spray capability will enable us to deliver better results to our customers while increasing efficiency and reducing costs."

The new system will allow AMF Precision Engineering to provide a range of thermal spray coatings for aerospace components, including thermal barrier coatings, wear-resistant coatings, and anti-corrosion coatings. This investment will enable AMF Precision Engineering to continue to provide the aerospace industry with world-class solutions for years to come.
