Hwacheon Machine Tools, represented in the UK by Ward Hi-Tech, has completed the Grand Opening of its European Technical Centre in Bochum, Germany, which was attended by local dignitaries, Hwacheon board members from Korea and Hwacheon dealers from across Europe and North America.

Designed as a European base that will provide technical advice and applications support, the new Hwacheon European Technical Centre will also deliver services such as distributor training, parts holding and showroom facilities. It is estimated that the showroom has capacity for up to 20 medium-to-large Hwacheon machine tools, when fully populated. The European Technical Centre also boasts an impressive glass-fronted theatre for presentations, seminars and lectures. The Grand Opening took place across three days at the end of April 2013, with ceremonies staged on the opening day, while an exhibition and extensive supporting programme were held on the subsequent two days. In total, more than 450 people attended. Ward Hi-Tech presented Mr Y D Kwon (president of Hwacheon Machine Tools Korea) and Mr K B Cho (managing director of Hwacheon Europe) with a Sheffield-made, silver-plated gallery tray engraved with congratulations from the Sheffield-based company. The UK agent was represented at the Grand Opening by UK sales manager Mike Burke and engineering general manager Richard Pearson. Strategically located in the heart of Germany's industrial north, the Hwacheon European Technical Centre is based at Bochum (less than 40 minutes east of Düsseldorf Airport), which, by coincidence, is a city twinned with Sheffield.
