Hardinge Bridgeport makes hard turning cool

Manufacturers turning hard and difficult-to-machine materials can now boost their cutting speeds and removal rates by up to 200 per cent and increase tool life by up to 250 per cent with ICEFLY.

Available from hard turning specialist Hardinge Bridgeport, ICEFLY is a revolutionary coolant system that uses nitrogen gas (liquefied by cooling to -320 °F) which is aimed at the cutting insert in cycle. The ice-cold jet removes heat from the cutting zone and, at the same time, evacuates ‘hot’ chips from the cutting area and workpiece. For those using ceramic inserts, ICEFLY prevents the insert cracking and fracturing. The system can be fitted to existing machines or can be specified as an additional option at the time of purchase. Inert liquid nitrogen can be stored away from the machine with it piped to a flow control unit that serves one or more machine tools.
