G&M Precision machines a plastics subcontractor niche

Subcontract plastic machining specialist G&M Precision (Plastics) has invested in four new Doosan machine tools, supplied by Mills CNC.

The machines (a Puma and a Lynx lathe, and two DNM 500 vertical machining centres) are part of a strategy to make the start-up subcontractor distinctive by focusing on manufacturing complex, high-precision 'engineering-plastic' parts. As a start-up business the help and advice from Mills CNC, both technical and commercial, has proved invaluable to get G&M up and running. Alex Glasgow, technical director, explains: "Our manufacturing experience and understanding of future market trends and opportunities pointed us in the direction of specialisation. We just didn't believe there was much of a future in us becoming another 'jack-of-all-trades' subcontract machining company." The company's decision to focus on engineering-plastic parts was an important one. As well as providing machining services, G&M also offers its customers plastic consultancy services "There is a wide range of commercially available Engineering Plastics on the market (i.e. Peek, PVC, Acrylic, Nylon 12, Nylon 66, Noryl, Polyethylene, Polyurethane, Torlon, Tufnol etc.), each with their own distinctive characteristics and properties. As such we provide customers with top-line consultancy and advice to ensure that customers select the best and most appropriate type and grade of plastic to meet their requirements," concluded Mr Glasgow.
