Fuchs' Ecocool S761B cutting fluid wins further Boeing approval

Fuchs Lubricants (UK) Plc's Fuchs Ecocool S761B cutting fluid has been approved by Boeing for heat treated steel, multi-metal stacks, titanium and non-exterior aluminium, winning the company's BAC 5008 Revision U accreditation for usage areas 2 and 3, in addition to its previous approvals for usage areas 5 and 6.

To gain this standing with Boeing, Ecocool S761B passed extensive testing, including galvanic corrosion protection evaluation and research into any potential effects the fluid may have on the metal on a micro-structural level. The Boeing approval is the latest addition to an ongoing list of achievements for Fuchs' Ecocool S761B, including Rolls-Royce CSS 129 and131 and Pratt & Whitney PMC 9346-1 approvals. AS9100-approved Fuchs Lubricants developed Ecocool S761B, a high performance soluble oil coolant, for use in both ferrous and non-ferrous metalworking applications, primarily designed for machining hard metals such as titanium (including Ti 6-4 and Ti-5553). It has, says Fuchs, been proven to deliver long service life, extraordinary foam control for high fluid delivery pressures and spindle speeds, and exceptional corrosion protection for aluminium, copper, brass and steel. An independent study, carried out at Warwick University, found Ecocool S761B to be the best performing product in terms of tool wear, offering substantially better performance than Fuchs' closest competitor's product. Diluted with water for use at 5- 10% concentration, Ecocool S761B is said to be the ideal lubricant for titanium machining. "We are very pleased with the results of this study which confirms our own findings from field testing", says Jill Cowell, Fuchs' UK aerospace industry specialist. "Our customers have reported an increase of up to six times longer tool life, when using Ecocool S761B in titanium applications, compared to conventional coolants." Fuchs will be at the forthcoming MACH exhibition - 7-11 April, NEC, Birmingham in Hall 4, stand 4655.
