Free-to-attend best practice seminars on machining titanium, stainless steels, nickel and composites are to be held at Seco Tools (UK)'s new Technology Centre in Alcester.

The first seminar on machining titanium and titanium alloys is being held on 26 June 2013, with three other seminars on machining stainless steels, machining nickel and nickel-based alloys, and machining composites occurring in July, September and October, respectively. The full programme is: titanium, 26 June 2013; stainless steels, 4 July 2013; nickel, 25 September 2013; composites, 26 October 2013. Visit www.secotools.com/uk/challenged or call Seco on 01789 764341. All four seminars combine practical machining demonstrations with key note presentations from leading industry experts and Seco's own specialist technical staff. Specific topics covered include: an introduction to each material and its current (and future) use and application; the characteristics and properties of each material and how these affect its machinability; advanced machining methods and best-practice solutions (including machining strategies and tooling selection). Says Mike Fleming (pictured), technical and marketing manager at Seco: "The seminars achieve the optimum balance between theory and practice. For example, our titanium seminar in June will feature presentations (in the morning) from Dr Wei Ming Sim, machining technologist, (Airbus), and Dr Richard Hood, lecturer, (University of Birmingham); whilst after lunch, attendees will be able see a number of titanium machining demonstrations on our CNC machine tools (using the latest advanced tooling solutions) and have the opportunity to discuss their own machining challenges directly with our engineers." There are three different machining demonstrations planned for the titanium seminar: mechanical edge profiling; the advantages of high pressure Jetstream tooling; high feed, high performance milling strategies.
