Free composites Quality and Inspection seminar at Delcam, Birmingham

The seminar will allow those new to the materials, and those hoping to win more business in the area, to better understand the quality control requirements of the industry and how they can be met. The opening session will cover the requirements within three of the key sectors for composite materials. John Hewitt from Airbus UK will cover the aerospace industry, Martin Wall of ESR, the oil and gas sector, and Roger Gregory of Jensys the marine sector. The remainder of the morning will cover developments in inspection methods. Philip Wallace from TWI will review developments in non-destructive evaluation of composites, while Peter Dickin from Delcam and David Homewood from FARO will cover metrology software and equipment respectively. Unlike many other areas within UK manufacturing, the composites industry is continuing to grow as the materials are used increasingly to replace metals and wood. New applications continue to be found as the properties of the materials are developed, especially in the aerospace, automotive and marine industries. While the opportunities are clearly attractive, both component manufacturers and toolmakers wishing to enter the industry must be able to meet the required standards of quality and consistency. This may be obvious for safety-critical applications, including aerospace or motorsport, and for high-quality areas, like luxury yachts, but it is also essential for less obvious areas for composite applications, such as medical equipment, wind energy and construction. The presentations will be followed by a buffet lunch, after which delegates will have opportunities for informal discussions with the speakers and to tour Delcam’s toolroom and inspection facilities.
