Manufacturer of bespoke steering systems Pailton Engineering is celebrating its 50-year anniversary. The company designs and creates world-class steering systems for niche vehicle sectors, including bus and coaches, trucks, utility, off-highway and military vehicles.

Established in 1969 as a subcontractor and toolmaker, the Coventry-based firm acquired the steering division of Automotive Products in 1992, adding ball joints, draglinks, tie-rods and anti-roll bars to its portfolio in a move that confirmed Pailton Engineering’s position as a world leader in steering system manufacturing.

Pailton Engineering’s growth has allowed the company to invest heavily in its facility and workforce. The £17.7 million turnover company now occupies a modern 80,000 square foot factory, equipped with the latest manufacturing technologies, including a new purpose-built staking rig. The newly implemented machines are part of ongoing investments to transform Pailton Engineering’s factory floor, with the company investing over £1 million on capital equipment each year.

Investment in people is also key. Employing in excess of 150 members of staff, in addition to running several technical and craft apprenticeships, Pailton Engineering is an active advocate of growing its own talent, showing dedication to assisting in early-year STEM careers and is a proud supporter of Women in Engineering.

“Coventry has a proud history as one of the most impressive manufacturing cities in Britain,” says Roger Brereton, head of sales at Pailton Engineering. “Our ties to this manufacturing community have enabled the company to become a knowledgeable powerhouse in the steering parts sector.

“With 50 years in the making, there is not much we haven’t seen in the way of vehicle design. As we continue investing in innovative facilities and aligning ourselves to the most rigorous testing and quality standards, our knowledge and expertise will ensure we remain at the forefront of the steering industry.”
