Ficep Gemini CNC cuts production time from four days to four hours

The Gemini CNC profiling machine launched by Ficep at MACH 2010 was said to be one of the world's most technologically advanced, multi-functional and flexible systems for profile cutting, drilling, machining and scribing, with an integral beveling capability.

Prior to the purchase of the Gemini cutting machine, Ficep has often produced demonstration pieces to prove conclusively that the Gemini is the perfect choice for companies with a requirement to increase output, reduce material handling time, lower production costs and improve quality. These times and cost savings are even more evident when additional processes are previously undertaken on different machines. The Gemini can drill, machine and cut finished pieces with greater accuracy and just one set-up in a fraction of the time. As the Gemini's software can generate programs directly from AutoCAD and 3D software packages this can also significantly reduce the drawing office time and costs. One of the first companies to purchase the Gemini was Briton Fabricators and the operations director Carl Powell comented: "Our existing manual drilling machines were creating bottlenecks in our fabrication process, the new Gemini machine has now dramatically improved productivity and material handling times have been drastically reduced. We now have one process from loading to assembly, rather than the six processes previously." On some typical pieces the Gemini has produced complex structural steel plates and girders in four hours or less which previously took four days using manual drilling and cutting machines. The Gemini 25 or 32 features variable length cutting bed to suit requirement, HPR 260 HD plasma capable of cutting up to 64 mm and up to three gas torches capable of cutting up to 120 mm.
