The European Commission is providing €21m to support research into precise and reliable measurements.
The funding is in support of iMERA-Plus, which brings together 32 national metrology institutions, including the UK’s NPL, Teddington. The money, to be made available under the Commission’s FP7 R&D framework, will be matched by a further €42 million from Member States.
iMERA-Plus will increase the impact of national investment in European metrology R&D and tackle the areas of most pressing metrological needs identified in the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP).
iMERA-PLUS will focus on four thematic areas: Addressing the possible redefinition of the SI and associated work on fundamental constants; Metrology for health; Dimensional/length metrology; Electricity and magnetism.
