Euro grinding partnership sees Lizzini machines sold with software from Haas Schleifmaschinen

An agreement between two European grinding brands will see Wallram Grindtec external and internal cylindrical and noncylindrical grinding machines (branded Lizzini) supplied with grinding software from Haas Schleifmaschinen (no relation to Haas Automation machine tools).

The software is installed under the GrindSelect label along with other technical, application-specific components developed by Lizzini.

Hans-Peter Kämpfer, principal shareholder and CEO of the Wallram Group, says: “The software collaboration with Haas – between two independent, family-run manufacturers of grinding machines with differing machine concepts – is likely the only one of its kind in the industry and represents a win-win situation for both parties and a benefit for our customers.”

Massimiliano Tortelli, co-shareholder and plant manager at Wallram Grindtec srl (Lizzini) says: “Our customers will quickly learn to appreciate the exceptional benefits of the new software architecture and the intuitive operation of the new software. GrindSelect enables us to implement our future ideas in development and new innovations, for which our company is well known in the industry.”

It was the growing market trend of shrinking batch sizes and an increasing demand for machine flexibility that prompted Lizzini to look for a flexible grinding software. Erich Börschig, in charge of sales in German-speaking regions and member of the Board of Directors of Wallram Grindtec Italy, who arranged the collaboration with Haas, explains: “GrindSelect software has allowed us to further expand the high end segment and tap into promising market niches in cylindrical grinding. The architecture of the Haas Multigrind Horizon software fulfills these requirements with flying colours. The program can process the 3D data of CAD programs, graphically prepare it and simulate both the workpiece and machine action in real time. We – Wallram Grindtec and Lizzini – will now market the software under our own GrindSelect label.”

The Haas Multigrind Horizon grinding software is available in three versions: for rotationally symmetrical tools; for 2.5D workpieces such as inserts and indexable inserts; for 3D applications. There are currently two versions to choose from: the software for the aerospace industry and the grinding program for medical application.

Since launching the software, Haas Schleifmaschinen has adapted many of its special features in Multigrind Horizon, including a variety of dressing procedures, obtaining grinding information, measuring grinding tools and workpieces within a process, recording thermal changes, and ongoing optimization of simulation.

Both are exhibiting at the GrindTec show in Augsburg, Germany this week: Wallram Grindtec (Lizzini) at stand 5025 in Hall 5, Haas Schleifmaschinen at stand 7001 in Hall 7.
