EOS and Siemens intensify co-operation around 3D printing

EOS and Siemens are intensifying their close collaboration to further accelerate additive manufacturing (AM) technology and application. The co-operation includes the areas of software, automation and drives.

To highlight recent collaboration efforts, Siemens control and drive components are part of the newly developed EOS M 300 series for metal additive manufacturing, while EOS' job and process management software EOSPRINT 2 now integrates into the AM module of Siemens NX 12. In addition, Siemens will introduce an EOS P 500 system for polymer industrial 3D printing into its Additive Manufacturing Experience Centre in Erlangen, Germany.

The EOS M 300 series is an automation-ready, future-proof platform that is configurable, scalable and secure. For this machine, EOS trusts in control and drive components from the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) portfolio.

Alfons Eiterer, head of system engineering at EOS, states: “EOS places a strong focus on quality and reliability in its new developments, while at the same time ensuring dynamic and technological progress.”

EOSPRINT 2 is an intuitive and open CAM tool that allows businesses to optimise CAD data for EOS systems. Siemens NX 12 is an end-to-end solution starting with design, via topology optimisation and process simulation, through to print preparation, in one user interface. Now, EOSPRINT 2 functions are seamlessly integrated into Siemens' NX Fixed Plane (Powder Bed) AM software module.

Also highlighting the collaboration effort, Siemens is going to extend its AMEC in Erlangen with the EOS P 500. The AMEC provides insight into different industrial AM technologies and information about the challenging industrial requirements for AM design, simulation and production.

“Fast AM industrialisation can only be realised through a close co-operation of experts from a software, automation and drive system background, along with industrial 3D printing experts, as is the case with Siemens and EOS,” states Dr Karsten Heuser, VP of AM at Siemens AG. “We are therefore proud to move with EOS into the next level of industrialisation, which will help transform AM further from the prototyping phase into industrial series production."
