Dormer cutting tool development

1 min read

In February, Dormer will be launching a range of taps (branded "spectrum") for a wide range of materials and applications, and D.Rapid, an express cutting tools service for solid carbide drills.

The company has grown from a traditional Sheffield cutting tool manufacturer to one of the world's largest producers of solid carbide and high speed steel cutting tools, with in excess of £20 million worth of cutting tool orders processed annually from Dormer's South Yorkshire base. Dormer Tools has a tradition for innovation by developing new cutting tools that have an impact on the global stage. It launches new products twice a year, in February and September, with an average of more than 50 cutting tools added to the range every twelve months. Cutting tool introductions typically include additions to Dormer's key drilling, threading and milling ranges. The whole process, from inception to completion, can take anywhere up to three years, with a significant amount of time devoted to the gathering of market intelligence. In some cases this can take as long as developing the cutting tool itself, but is a crucial part of Dormer's philosophy of introducing cutting tools that offer enhanced performance and added value to customers.
