Devon-based PTG Precision Engineers continues to invest in new machines and people

Following another solid trading year, Plymton based PTG Precision Engineers have continued to invest in both new machinery and people.

In the last few weeks PTG selected, purchased and have already installed a brand new compact sized wire EDM for ultra-precise machining in their factory workshop.

“We’ve been looking to buy a new precision wire cut machine for some time and with another solid year behind us, it enabled us to make this sizeable investment,” said Mike Stevens M.D. at PTG.

“To help us in the selection process we worked closely with Warwick Machine Tools (WMT) located in Droitwich Spa.

“They recommended Excetek, a Taiwanese company who are a leading manufacturer of world class quality precision wire cut machines."

“With their advanced technology and simple user interface we selected WMT’s most popular EDM machine, the Excetek V400G Plus,” he continued.

The V400G Plus machine features a high-speed auto wire threading system, a high-response AC servo motor, to guarantee accuracy, and has excellent corner control.

“As the machine was available from stock, WMT arrange the transport and they also helped install the machine in our new configured factory layout. To say that we’re thrilled with the machine would be an understatement.

"It’s brilliant. We’ve already machined some parts for nuclear applications and we already cannot believe the finish and tolerance we are achieving without the need to grind out,” concluded Stevens.

With the business thriving and with potentially more ultra-precise machining requests coming, as a result of this new machine, PTG are now looking to increase their headcount, with a particular focus on experienced Turners and Millers, plus the recruitment of a couple of apprentices along with some planned work experience weeks for some local students.
