Delcam FeatureCAM software developed to drive 3D printers for electronics production duties

UK-headquartered Autodesk-owned CADCAM software specialist Delcam has entered into a global sales partnership with Optomec that will see the latter sell and support Delcam products in conjunction with sales of its Aerosol Jet systems for 3D printed electronics. It’s a move that demonstrates the new possibilities that Autodesk ownership brings to Delcam.

Since the beginning of 2015, the companies have worked together to enhance Delcam’s FeatureCAM software to support Optomec’s Aerosol Jet 5-axis system for 3D printed electronics. FeatureCAM is better known for its support of metalcutting processes.

The end result enables Delcam software to create additive 5-axis toolpaths that drive Aerosol Jet systems to print sensors, antennae and other functional electronics virtually anywhere onto mechanical structures, maximising design and manufacturing flexibility for a new generation of smart devices.

This industry leading collaboration builds upon the recent strategic investment Optomec received through Autodesk’s Spark Fund (see Machinery article here) that supports ideas that push the boundaries of 3D printing.

“Through this collaboration, Delcam and Optomec have developed, and are delivering, world-class, production-ready additive manufacturing solutions to meet next-generation printed electronic product challenges,” says Christian Briscoe, VP Western US sales for Delcam. “We are excited about the possibilities.”
