CNC sliding-head machine incorporates laser technology
1 min read
The forthcoming IMTS event in Chicago next month will see a CNC sliding-head lathe fitted with a laser.

US machine tool agent REM Sales will be showing a Tsugami S206-II with IMG 400LS laser cutting system. Not a standard model, the Tsugami machine has been modified by REM Sales' sister company, Innovative Machinery Group.
Reports American magazine Modern Machine Shop, it was originally designed to speed production of small, cylindrical parts such as stents for the medical industry, but it could support potential applications for other industries that manufacture similar-sized parts. In keeping with today's production desires, the reason to combine these two technologies is to replaces two machines with one, avoiding multiple set-ups.
All laser cutting operations are programmed and driven from the machine's Fanuc 32i-B NC control, with nozzle stand-off adjustment also NC-controlled, while the laser's frequency, pulse width, focus and power are all adjustable 'on the fly' and programmed through the control.
Machinery will carry an IMTS review in its October issue
