Citizen-Miyano took four machine orders at its recent 'One-Stop' turn-milling technology Open House in Watford.
Subcontractor Unicut Precision placed an order and took delivery out of the showroom of the latest Miyano BNJ-51SY3 twin-spindle, twin turret turn-mill centre launched at the event.
Unicut's Jason Nicholson, joint managing director of the Welwyn Garden City company, explained the need for the machine: "This year we have seen a particular increase in demand for complicated parts made from 30 to 45 mm bar involving difficult materials that require longer cycle times. As a result even with extended shifts and unmanned running, capacity is being rapidly absorbed on our larger Citizen and Miyano machines which can take bar up to 64 mm."
In particular, Unicut Precision has recently secured a 12 month contract for a range of hydraulic components with delivery schedules of 5,000 a week. The parts require a combination of turning, boring, milling, crosshole drilling, grooving and threading in a single cycle. These will now be produced in a three machine dedicated cell involving the new Miyano machine, an existing Miyano BNJ and a Citizen sliding head.
The managing director of Citizen Machinery UK and Miyano Machinery UK, Geoff Bryant, added: "The Unicut Miyano machine and three Citizen machine orders placed at the event were typical of the interest shown by the more than 110 companies that came along. Most were becoming very concerned to improve their levels of competitiveness and production capability by reducing non-cutting times which our latest machines can address giving savings up to 40 per cent."
