AGS MD Chris Boraston said that this promises to be a very important exhibition for AGS and for its Principals that are involved in the manufacture of machines and associated products for the medical industry.
AGS is a major supplier of grinding and finishing equipment to the medical sector for a huge variety of applications including the manufacture of artificial knee and hip joints, bone drills and reamers, wires and needles, and many other components.
He noted that AGS has well over 100 machines in use in Ireland that continues to be one of the largest markets for machinery for manufacturing medical parts of all kinds and it has supplied many of the very large OEMs in Ireland as well as their first tier sub-suppliers such as Smithstown Light Engineering.
At the Medical Technology Exhibition, he noted that AGS will be showcasing the many advantages that it can bring to medical part manufacturers including multi-axis grinding machines from Rollomatic, internal and external grinding machines from Danobat, centerless grinding machines from Tschudin, dry electro polishing machines from GPA Innova, Deburring machines from Gerber, grinding wheels from Krebs & Riedel and high performance filtration systems from Comat.
Rollomatic has a large number of end-users in Ireland within the medical sector that are involved in the manufacture of drills, reamers, burrs and other medical tools and have recently launched the Grindsmart 630RW grinding machine that incorporates a 6-axis Fanuc robot for the auto loading of tools of up to 500mm in length.
Danobat has supplied machines for the grinding of ceramic femoral parts such as artificial hip joint ball heads.
Tschudin has supplied centerless grinding machines for a variety of medical applications for general tooling, medical wires and tubes, and needle grinding.
With their D-Lyte range of machines, GPA Innova, has many machines in use in Ireland for the polishing of femoral parts such as artificial knee and hip joints and many other parts.
Gerber has supplied various brush based deburring machines for medical parts to companies such as Medartis that are used after a punching, milling or grinding operations to remove micro burrs on components such as bone plates.
Krebs & Riedel manufactures a range of high speed grinding wheels including CBN wheels for external grinding operations on femoral parts such as artificial knee joints.
Comat’s ultra filtration systems are used on turning machines as well as grinding machines such as those made by Rollomatic and Tschudin to ensure that coolant and machines are kept perfectly clean at all times.
AGS will be exhibiting many medical components on their stand that have been manufactured on their large range of machinery and said it is "very much look forward" to meeting with engineers to discuss their medical applications.
