Turn a $10 drill into a $150 one with a Darex CNC tool grinder.

That was the message underlined by the company’s Lorelei Frye-Wiltrout as she demonstrated the XPS-16, CNC carbide drill grinder on the 1st MTA (1st Machine Tool Accessories)* stand at MACH last week. The 3-16 mm diameter capacity unit automatically measures drill diameter and web and will sharpen, create split point and hone in a single operation to produce both conic and faceted style drills, taking in radiused split, high performance drills – “unique to this machine”, is the claim. The unit can hold 25 separate programmes on board and can access others stored externally. The unit is being offered at 20 per cent off list and with a free 90° drill point upgrade - worth £1,000 - for six months. Another product launch saw 1st MTA unveil a new Chick innovation with its conversion faceplate. This sits on a standard Chick base unit and allows eight 50 mm wide Chick dual vice systems to be located across the width of the plate, increasing the capacity of a single Chick base unit. In addition, there’s the Quickstak 50 System 5, a grid plate that locates on a machine bed and which allows Chick 50 mm wide double vices to be located as desired. This launch is the start of a new range of offerings from Chick, said the company’s president, Paul Swann. 1s MTA also highlighted its new oil mist filtration system from Sweden’s 3nine. Offering separation of up to 99.9 per cent, an advantage of the system is that there are no filters to replace or elements to maintain. *1st Machine Tools Accessories is a Kitagawa Europe company operating out of a separate building next to Kitagawa’s Salisbury headquarters.
