Oxfordshire-based automotive manufacturer SRF is futureproofing their machining practices with the help of cutting tool firm Ceratizit

Automotive manufacturing parts specialist SRD works across Formula 1 and motorsport and has gained a strong reputation over the last three decades for the quick turnaround of parts.

The company has experienced rapid growth in the last six to seven months but is always looking to be at the front and ahead of its competition.

For many years, SRD has relied on tried and tested machining techniques to provide the excellent service they are known for. However, with recent higher demand for products and a need to fulfill more orders at a quicker rate, they turned to Ceratizit UK & Ireland for help.

Working with Nev Frisby, technical sales engineer at Ceratizit, SRD examined their machining processes, inserts and tools and outlined some areas where improvements could be implemented.

Firstly, the management team from SRD were invited to a training day at Ceratizit’s Technical Centre in Sheffield. Led by technical manager Shaun Thornton, SRD learned about the most up to date tooling and machining practises, as well as being given the chance to put these tools and materials to the test in the workshop.

Back in the workshop, Nev set up a tooling ‘swap out’, where new inserts were tested without expense to see if they would work for them. It was not long before SRD began to achieve some incredible results.
