Apperley engineers gearing up for move

Apperley Honing are gearing up for what will be only its second move in nearly 50 years of trading.

Apperley Honing was set up in 1963 by partners Theo Sanders and Peter Smith in outbuildings in the Sanders family gardens and after just two years of trading it moved to its present location in Alstone Lane, Cheltenham. Over the next four decades, the business expanded taking on several additional units on the same trading estate. Since joining forces with sister company, Apperley Honing Machines, it is planning a move to the nearby Kingsditch Trading Estate. Specialising in contract honing from 3 to 750 mm diameter in lengths up to 15,000 mm along with the supply of reconditioned used honing machines, Apperley has grown significantly over the last three years and now finds the current building too restrictive. "We aim to start the move shortly and expect to be fully operational in the new building by the end of April 2011. As far as our customers are concerned it will be very much business as usual throughout this period and everything should run seamlessly," said communications consultant, Carl Brown. Apperley Honing is a subcontract honing company, located in Cheltenham and owned by managing director Charles Sanders.
