Metris and Virtek to develop aerospace metrology solutions

1 min read

Metris has entered into an agreement with Virtek Vision International Inc to work together in the development of integrated metrology products and solutions within the aerospace sector.

Belgian-headquartered Metris is the owner of CMM maker Metris LK in Derby and also 3D Scanners, London, these being two of the company's additional production and development centres. Metris has others in US (California, Detroit, Virginia), China, Russia, India and Bulgaria as well as a worldwide network of sales and support offices located in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Virtek Vision International Inc is a leading developer of precision laser-based technologies. Under the terms of agreement, Virtek's iLS (Intelligent Laser Systems) and Integration Group will become the worldwide preferred integrator to the aerospace market for Metris' Indoor GPS technology. The iGPS system is a modular, large-volume tracking and measurement system that enables factory-wide localisation of multiple objects simultaneously. The technology has many applications in manufacturing and assembly and was an integral part of the Virtek iLS integrated laser guidance and measurement solution developed for Lockheed Martin. In addition, Virtek becomes the worldwide preferred integrator for aerospace (except in France, Italy and Spain where the Company will have alternate integrator status) for the Metris Laser Radar product line. This provides fully automated, non-contact measurement and inspection capability for large-volume metrology applications up to 60 m. Virtek also becomes the preferred integrator for the Metris Optical CMM/DMM products, (except in continental Europe where the Company will have alternate supplier status due to existing agreements). These Optical CMM/DMM products are used for high accuracy, high speed dynamic tracking, measuring, and calibrating of smaller volume parts or machines.
