Additively-manufactured parts equivalent to injection moulded, promises Paragon Rapid Technologies

Parts in engineering-grade materials equivalent to those produced by injection moulding are promised by Paragon Rapid Technologies, following the company becoming the first in the UK to offer US firm Carbon’s proprietary Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) technology.

Unlike conventional 3D printing systems, Carbon’s DLS technology manages a liquid gradient using light and oxygen to create robust parts with mechanical properties and surface finish that reflect injection-moulded plastics. The cutting-edge technology enables the manufacture of 100s or even 1000s of production parts, very quickly and without the need for tooling.

Says Phil Adamson, managing director at Paragon: “The market place has been waiting for a leading additive manufacturing solution to push the boundaries of what is possible and which combines engineered materials, speed efficiency and build definition, and we feel the Carbon technology does just that. DLS is game-changing for the industry, because our customers can go from design to production with one technology, which significantly reduces development costs and eliminates tooling requirements. Alongside an ambitious materials program, it gives real scalability for higher volume batch production.”
