Walter Helitronic Vision 700L makes short work of long tools

Cutting tools from 3 to 200 mm diameter and up to 700 mm long can be processed on the Walter Helitronic Vision 700 L tool grinder from Walter Ewag UK. The machine can accommodate rotary tools, such as milling cutters, drills, step drills and profiling tools, made from carbide, HSS, ceramic, cermet and CBN.

The 5-axis Vision 700 L features linear and torque motors, together with a 35 kW/10,500 rpm spindle motor. Grinding wheels up to 254 mm diameter can be changed by the six-station wheel-changer (optionally 12/24 station), while a Fanuc 6-axis robot provides automatic tool loading and unloading.

Walter's Helitronic Tool Studio software is supplied as standard for the Fanuc CNC and, when used with the plug-in feed rate optimiser routines, the company says that total grinding and non-productive times can be reduced.
