Walter extends thread forming range

Walter, the tooling specialist, has extended its Prototyp Protodyn S Plus and S ECO ranges of thread form tools.

Suitable for producing threads up to 3.5 times diameter, the Prototyp Protodyn S Plus range is available, from Walter GB of Bromsgrove, for producing threads of M1 to M24, fine threads of M4 x 0.5 to M24 x 1.5, UNC2 to UNC5/8 and UNF2 to UNF5/8. The new tools to the range feature TiN coatings, lubrication grooves and enhanced geometries for improved entry and wear behaviour, as well as improved polygonal forms for reduced friction. Including tools with a TiCN multi-layer coating for working high carbon steels and aluminium alloys, the Protodyn S ECO range (also for threads up to 3.5 times diameter) has been extended from M2 to M20 and M8 x 1 to M16 x 1.5 for fine threads. Sizes M5 and upwards also include variants with internal cooling, having both radial and axial outlets. Threads produced using Walter Prototyp Protodyn tools will have higher static and dynamic tensile strength than a cut thread due to the work hardening of both the faces and root of the thread during the forming process.
