Versatile cylindrical grinder

Shigiya has extended its range of cylindrical grinders with the new GPH model.

The GPH is based on Shigiya’s GPL CNC cylindrical and is available as the GPH-30 (300 mm diameter swing) or GPH-40 (400 mm diameter swing), and with distances between centres of 400, 600, 1000 and 1,500mm. A full CNC cylindrical unit, it also has specially designed handles that support easy processing of one-offs, specials and modifications. The handles are similar to those usually fitted to manual and automatic grinders, and so are positioned in the most user-friendly position offering excellent feel. The grinding patterns in addition to full G-code include: plunge; multi-plunge; oscillation; traverse; taper; multi-plunge taper; face; and any combination. Standard dressing cycles include: straight; multi-step; taper; radius and face; plus G-code. The control is the Fanuc 0i range with easy-to-use control panel and the option of full ISO CNC programming or interactive automatic programming. For interactive programming, software automatically sets the optimum grinding process. This is achieved by simply entering the wheel and work piece information as requested on the on-screen messages. As with all Shigiya grinders, the wheel-head uses the company’s own patented non-concentric hydrodynamic bearing system, which enables precision grinding through the use of a specialised bearing grinder developed exclusively at Shigiya. This bearing arrangement ensures the optimum wedge gradient based on hydrodynamic theory, the innovation of which ensures a new level of high spindle rigidity and rotation. The wheel-head motor is also manufactured by Shigiya and in its self is high precision with extremely low vibration. The slideways have a hydrostatic lubrication system, and there’s an option for the wheel-head slide to have a closed-loop hydrostatic slide, which maintains a very stable, smooth and accurate movement.
