Tornos EvoDeco 10 sliding-head evolution builds on proven Deco 10 performance

Tornos has launched its EvoDeco 10 for the production of small and highly complex components. The 10-axis CNC turning centre is an evolution of the Deco 10 sliding-head lathe.

The proven basic principles of the established Deco 10 are maintained in the new EvoDeco 10. However, the EvoDeco takes sliding head technology to the next level with its new features, says Tornos, including synchronous motors on the main and sub-spindles with integrated cooling. This provides constant torque at higher speeds and optimises cutting speeds. Additionally, the motors can accelerate from 0 to 10,000 rpm in 0.5 sec, further improving cycle times. Operator access, the toolholders and live tooling have been reconfigured to accommodate additional tooling and attachments. These changes permit the EvoDeco 10/10, 10-axis machine to house 21 tools while the EvoDeco 10/8, 8-axis machine can hold 18 tools. Tornos has also developed turning tool holders with two or three positions to increase the number of tool stations. The driven tool station at the main spindle can hold three live tools with a bore diameter up to 16 mm. In addition, the EvoDeco has now a Y-axis at the counter-spindle to assist quick set-up of tooling and electronic offset adjustment in production. These enhancements have been built upon additional developments that address rigidity, productivity, surface finishes and tool life. They include a new tool fixation system for revolving and non-revolving tools in counter operations. This improves the machining conditions when cutting at high speeds to generate better surface finishes, says Tornos.
