Sumitomo adds polygon cassette system to GND grooving range

Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal’s ISO-based range of GND polygon cassette shank tooling for turning applications has been developed to restrict vibration while enhancing chip control when grooving, parting-off, turning and profiling.

Engineered with an interface repeatability within ±2 micron for the insert-carrying cassette, the GND series of ISO polygon cassette grooving system expands the original Sumitomo GND grooving system launched in 2012. It introduces both PSC straight and L-style holders for external grooving applications. These cover groove widths from between 2 by up to 12 mm deep, to 6 by 18 mm deep.

A series of external left- and right-hand multi-purpose cassettes is available – GNDCMR and GNDCML – for profiling or turning wide grooves, along with seven chipbreaker-style coated carbide inserts. There is also a dedicated GF insert for parting-off and an RG insert for general profiling.
