Seco releases face and taper toolholders

Unlike conventional taper-only toolholders that are simply supported at their maximum taper diameter (gauge line diameter), face and taper toolholders from Seco Tools are supported at their gauge line diameter and flange face surface.

According to the company, this results in superior rigidity that, in turn, improves part accuracies and surface finishes, and extends tool life by minimising toolholder deflection and vibration.

The principle is that before clamping, the toolholder taper and spindle taper are in contact with each other to establish a good taper fit. When the machine’s spindle drawbar is activated, the toolholder is pulled into the spindle which expands until the faces of both the spindle and the toolholder contact each other. This completes the simultaneous fit of the toolholder taper and flange to the spindle taper and face.

The toolholders are available for BT30 TF, BT40 TF, BT50 TF, CAT40 TF and CAT50 TF spindles.
