Schunk data matrix code allows toolholder management

Schunk has introduced data matrix coding system that allows for intelligent toolholder management. Regardless of whether it is done manually by smart phone, or fully automated using a machine tool scanner, every toolholder can now be identified with the help of a specific code. Combining this with a corresponding database system means toolholders can be assigned to the exact machine tool or process.

Within the framework of intelligent manufacturing it is now possible to generate a precise history together with data from a central system that includes sites of operation, tools used, service life and machining parameters. In contrast to adhesive RFID tags, which require rebalancing of the toolholders, a data matrix code is permanent and has no influence on balancing quality. Individual marking can be undertaken for every Tendo hydraulic expansion toolholder (except Tendo E Compact) and with every Tribos polygonal toolholder.
