Rainford’s Union UDC hard mills quicker than EDM and grinding

Rainford Precision now offers a range of ball-nosed end-mills from Union Tool. The UDCBF and UDCLBF lines are designed to cut tungsten carbides, ceramics, zirconium, silicon carbide and nitride materials up to a hardness of 80 HRc. The cutters are aimed at machine shops that are processing hard materials via time-consuming processes such as grinding and EDM.

The UDCBF is available in diameters of 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1, 1.2, 1.5 and 2 mm, with a cut length from 0.42 to 1.4 mm. Having a 4 mm shank diameter and a 16° taper angle, the UDCBF has been designed to optimise rigidity whilst achieving sufficient reach for intricate machining.

The diamond-coated UDCBF and UDCLBF demand machine tools capable of cutting from 20,000 to 30,000 rpm at feed rates in the region of 750 mm/min.
