Mitsui Seiki Vertex 55X III 5-axis VMC sports multi-sensor thermal growth monitoring system

The Mitsui Seiki Vertex 55X III 5-axis simultaneous control series of vertical machining centres from 2D CNC Machinery introduces a multi-sensor thermal growth monitoring system MAMS (Mitsui Accurate Milling Support) that, against previously used machine tool technologies, enables enhancements in accuracy by creating up to a 35%t improvement in minimising Z-axis thermal displacement.

Having a work envelope of 750 mm diameter by 525 mm high, the Mitsui Seiki Vertex 55X III boasts rapid traverse rates of 48 m/min to positioning accuracies of ±1 micron over the 550 mm in X by 600 mm in Y and 500 mm in Z travels. Meanwhile, small point-to-point surface movements are also realised due to the advantage gained by greater rigidity of the machine design.

Workpieces are held upon a 360°, 50 rpm C-axis table of 400 mm diameter able to support loads of 350 kg. The A-axis offers +15 to -105° and a positioning accuracy of ±2 arc-secs and with a repeatability of ±1.5 mins.

Weighing in at 9.5 tonnes, rigidity in the bed and castings is paramount in maintaining consistent three-dimensional component accuracy. The 40-taper spindle’s power is 18.5 kW, torque is 28.6 Nm and speed is 25,000 rpm.Tool storage capacity is 40 positions for tools up to 90 mm diameter (125 mm with adjacent pockets left empty) by 300 mm in length.
