Master Chemical’s non-chlorinated Trim E950 cutting fluid suits difficult materials

Master Chemical Europe has created Trim E950, a boron and formaldehyde donor free, bio-stable cutting and grinding fluid, whose suitability for purpose has been confirmed by Rolls-Royce approval.

The lubricity of Trim E950 contributes to exceptional surface finish and tool life on difficult to machine aluminium alloys, inconel, titanium, stainless and high tensile strength steels, says Master Chemical. Master Chemical's aim was to achieve the performance of previous generation highly chlorinated EP Trim fluids but without chlorine. A UK aerospace subcontractor field-tested Trim E950 against its highly chlorinated counterpart and it delivered a significant increase in tool life in the volume production of titanium and stainless steel parts. Trim E950 is a proprietary blend of new vegetable-based technology and premium, traditional lubricity additives, formulated to yield a very high performance, low management metal removal fluid, says Master Chemical. It is operator friendly because of its mild contact nature and low chemical initial-charge odour. However, it is sufficiently robust to provide an extended service life without rancid odours. Also, its non-chlorinated and non-sulphurised extreme pressure (EP) additives are said proven to control built-up edge in tough operations on aerospace materials. Hard water tolerant and very low foaming even in soft water areas, Trim E950 is a fine emulsion, fast wetting fluid that gets to the point of cut quickly. It also effectively coats the workpiece and chips to enhance tool life and maximise corrosion prevention. It is proving to have a very long sump life.
