Mapal releases four cutters for lightweight materials

Mapal has introduced four milling cutters to suit thermoplastic and composite materials.

The solid carbide OptiMill-Thermoplastic features very sharp cutting edges and special geometry to ensure the optimum discharge of chips and minimise heat build-up when milling thermoplastics.

Also released is the OptiMill-Thermoplastic-FR for the machining of fibre-reinforced thermoplastics, predominantly carbon fibres. As carbon fibres are very abrasive, the solid carbide OptiMill-Thermoplastic-FR is diamond coated.

The solid carbide end-milling cutter OptiMill-Composite-UD is for the milling of fibre composite materials, such as CFRP, that are either very thin or are difficult to machine. Thanks to its edge geometry, it achieves a simultaneous pulling and pushing cut with compression effect in the part, thus preventing delamination and fibre projections.

Finally, the Mapal OptiMill-Honeycomb eight-bladed solid carbide end milling cutter has sharp cutting edges, a helix angle of 15° and fine serration for the machining of honeycomb structures.
