Mapal drill is cost effective in low-volume production

Mapal is expanding its range of three-edge Tritan-Drills by adding a universal version manufactured from HSS. The Tritan-Drill-HSS has been specifically developed for cost-effective performance in short-series production.

Thanks to the shape of its main cutting edge, the Tritan-Drill-HSS is said to be robust, even in difficult drilling applications, thus reducing the potential for damage. The drill’s coating is optimised for universal machining, which means it can be used for different materials while maintaining long tool life.

Tritan-Drill-HSS can be used to achieve feeds up to 50% higher than twin-edged HSS drills, and at the same time has a tool life that is up to four times longer, says Mapal. Due to the special point geometry, piloting and centre-punching are not necessary. The Tritan-Drill-HSS can also be used with hand drills, with the pronounced drill tip preventing it from slipping over the chisel edge. This capability is a complete contrast to drills with two cutting edges, states the company. Tritan Drill-HSS is available in a diameter range from 8 to 40 mm.
