Large travel Haas VF-12 VMC accommodates large volume machining

Haas Automation is aiming its VF-12 vertical machining centre at the aerospace, automotive and mould and die industries where there is a trend towards the manufacture of monolithic components and large composite structures.

The vertical machining centre's XYZ travels of 3,810 by 813 by 762 mm and a 3,810 by 711 mm T-slot table easily accommodates large volume machining. The Haas VF-12 is available in both 40- and 50-taper configuration with spindle speeds to 10,000 rpm. In 40-taper configuration, the Haas VF-12 is equipped with a 20 hp vector dual-drive spindle that spins to 7,500 rpm and provides 75 ft-lb of torque. A 24+1 tool side-mount tool changer is standard, with an option of 40+1 tool side-mount. A 10,000 rpm spindle is available for high speed work, and a two-speed geared-head spindle that yields 250 ft-lb of torque is available in both 7,500 rpm and 10,000 rpm configurations. The 50-taper VF-12 features a 7,500 rpm geared-head spindle that provides 450 ft-lb of torque for heavy cutting. It is powered by a 30 hp vector dual drive system that features on-the-fly wye-delta switching for a wide constant-horsepower band. A 30+1 tool side-mount toolchanger is standard, and a 10,000-rpm geared-head spindle is available. The Haas VF-12's massive cast iron construction, triangulated wide-stance castings and heavy-duty outriggers prevent flex and damp vibration to provide high accuracy and consistent repeatability. Linear (glass) scales are available as an option for extremely precise positioning. Other high productivity options include high pressure through spindle coolant, 4th- and 5th-axis drives, high-speed machining software and a wireless intuitive probing system. Standard equipment also includes a chip auger system, programmable coolant nozzle, rigid tapping, 95 gallon flood coolant system and 15 inch colour LCD monitor with USB port.
