Kennametal designs Rodeka 8 for turbine blade machining

Kennametal Rodeka 8 inserts, with a total of eight cutting edges, have tool bodies specially designed and engineered for turbine blade machining.

Rodeka 8 inserts have the same anti-rotation feature for greater contact area, stability and higher feedrates as Kennametal's double-sided 12 cutting edge Rodeka indexable milling range. They also feature a seating dimple between tool faces to ease insert rotation and improve second side edge performance. Rodeka 8 inserts are offered in two styles –LD, indicated for stainless steel and titanium operations, and –GD, being the preferred topography for forged blades. PVD-coated inserts have a polished rake face to generate better chip formation and to increase tool life. Inserts with a thinner CVD coating avoid premature flaking and also function better in combination with sharper edges. All Rodeka 8 inserts are made of KCMP30 grade, a multi-layered coated carbide with advanced post-coat treatment for a wide application in general and rough steel milling that works best in dry conditions. KCMP30 has been designed to provide superior edge toughness and can reduce depth of cut notching. Rodeka 8 tool bodies are available in a shell mill cutter style from 40 to 80 mm diameter for blade machining, but are also capable of pocketing, profiling and face milling.
