ITC introduces ball-nosed 47N0 VariMill end mills for hard materials machining

Industrial Tooling Corporation (ITC) has introduced the ball-nosed 47N0 VariMill Series of high performance solid carbide end mills for slotting and side milling operations in hard materials.

The TiAlN-coated ITC 47N0 VariMill is manufactured from an extremely tough micrograin solid carbide substrate for tool life and performance when milling materials such as steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, high temperature alloys and hard materials. It also offers the opportunity to reduce tooling inventory for the end user with its ability to perform on most material types. The ball nosed cutters are available in diameters that include 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20 mm with a of 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 22 and 26 mm length of cut respectively. Overall lengths range from 57 to 104 mm to minimise vibration and maintain rigidity when conducting high feed machining. The cutting length to overall length ratio also supports high metal removal rates and minimises stress on the machine tool spindle. This robust design is enhanced by a shank diameter identical to the cutting diameter with a recess length to extend the reach of the series when machining cavities and slots. The 47N0 VariMills' unequally spaced four flutes and centre cutting geometry rapidly removes swarf while preventing the harmonic effect that is created by machining at high speeds and feeds. The polished flutes have a 38º angle to enhance swarf removal from the cutting edge.
