Hollfelder-Guhring introduces chip-guiding PCD milling cutter

The HPC cutter from Hollfelder-Guhring exploits the company's latest developments in PCD milling technology. Its chip guiding elements, radial coolant exits and 10 times re-grindable PCD cutting edges are aimed at improving machining productivity and cost efficiency.

Unlike conventional milling cutters, where uncontrolled chips enter the workpiece through the axially open chip chambers, the Guhring HPC cutter has replaceable chip guiding elements designed to ensure chips are washed away through the radial coolant exits. This prevents chips reaching sensitive internal areas of workpieces. The HPC cutter's teeth boast 27 by 125 mm diameter PCD cutting edges, enabling feedrates of up to 60,000 mm/min. The axial run-out of the cutting edge is µm accuracy adjustable – consequently it is possible to achieve a very high quality surface finish. Furthermore the PCD cutting edges can be reground up to 10 times. The HPC milling cutter is suitable for face milling cylinder heads, sealing or flange faces on, for example, transmission housings, oil sumps, crank casings, etc. As well as good surface qualities, the milling cutter provides defined peak-to-valley height.
