Exceptional cast iron machining performance and more from SX1 insert

The SX1 Silicone Nitride Ceramic grade now delivers exceptional performance for cast iron machining, having been developed to reduce the notch wear of ceramic in heavy roughing operations. The SX1 grade not only provides efficient machining of grey cast iron, but also offers high performance under high speed machining conditions. Combined with notch style clamping, the SX1 gives the end user long and predictable tool life. This clamping method ensures that insert movement is eliminated even under the most severe of cutting conditions. To further enhance tool life and performance, the insert design has added thickness to reduce the possibility of any insert breakage. This new grade can be applied to rough turning of cast iron and nodular cast iron in the region of 300 - 1000/min and 250-450m/min, respectively. For rough and finish machining of cast iron and nodular cast iron, the SX1 can operate at 500 - 1000/min and 300-600 m/min, respectively. These operating speeds are achieved under dry cutting conditions. This is an added bonus as dry machining eliminates the need for potentially environmentally damaging and expensive cutting fluids.
