ESAB Samson automatically a cut above hand plasma cutting torches

ESAB Cutting Systems' Samson entry-level plasma cutting table is aimed at companies wanting to move up from hand plasma cutting torches to an automated process in areas such as general metal fabrication, metal crafts, blacksmiths, heating and ventilation ductwork as well as sign making.

A CADCAM software and control system is included in the Samson package, making it easy to design, layout, and cut various components and fabrications. The software automatically prepares complex drawings for cutting and any artwork can be converted to a cut part. Existing parts can be duplicated from scanned images and drawing programs. The software also runs the machine and no other software is needed. This speeds up the process so that jobs that may formerly have taken all day can now be done in minutes, says ESAB. The ESAB Samson is designed to be simple to operate and to produce precise metal shapes from sheet metal and heavy plate in minutes. This compact machine cuts material up to 1.5 by 3 m and over 25 mm thick at speeds of up to 254 mm/min. Samson is suitable for both one-offs and large batches. The plasma cutting table features servomotors for accurate, high speed motion. A quick-change feature for consumables helps to minimise downtime. Enhanced digital height control ensures the plasma torch hovers at a precise distance over the metal during cutting. It raises and lowers the torch between cuts, sensing the material to set the exact pierce height before each cut and avoiding potential collisions.
