DMG DMU 85FD vertical machining centre combines turning and complex milling in single set-up

DMG's DMU 85FD monoBlock 'Next Generation' is a mill-turning version of the DMU 85 monoBlock. The compact 85FD universal machine is capable of both turning and complex milling operations in a single set-up.

The DMU 85FD's direct drive mill-turning table technology is a derivation of the company's duoBlock module. Maximum table load capacity is 1,000 kg and maximum workpiece dimensions are 850 mm dia by 590 mm. Maximum table rotational speed is up 800 rpm while stability and dynamics in the tandem drive version allow an additional 40 rpm in the swivel axis. The DMU 85FD has an 18,000 rpm 35 kW spindle and an HSK-A63 tool interface. An HSK-H100 spindle option delivers 44 kW and 288 Nm torque. The FD development also incorporates special mill-turning cycles to facilitate single set-up operation. These include automatic checking and correction of imbalances, automatically varied rotational speeds to avoid component vibration and swivelling of long tools into the workpiece. Mill-turning cycles such as piercing, undercutting or multi-blade tool usage are available by default to assist maximum productivity. As well as saving space by virtue of its dual capability, the DMU 85FD compact design requires 11.6 m2 to accommodate traverses of 850 mm in X and Y and 650 mm in Z.
