DMG DMU 60 eVo FD performs both prismatic and rotational machining in one clamping

DMG has introduced the 5-axis DMU 60 eVo FD with integral turning capability for the manufacture of complex workpieces, particularly in the aerospace, medical and motorsport industries.

As rotational as well as prismatic machining can be performed in one clamping, says DMG, the DMU 60 eVo FD can both reduce costs and increase accuracy. Distinctive features include a redesigned gantry that allows the X and Y axes to be located in the upper part of the machine. Spindle overhang is minimised, promoting increased stability and rigidity for high precision metal cutting. The large distance between the guideways also affords high and constant rigidity over the whole working area. The optimally positioned gantry and the rounded design of the front of the machine allow access to the working area from two sides for efficient set-ups. Even if the DMU 60 eVo FD is equipped with automation, accessibility to the working area is still easy, confirms DMG. The swivelling rotary torque table has been further strengthened, doubling the load capacity to 400 kg while retaining the original space-saving design. The table has a swivel range from -5 to +110º, measures 630 mm diameter and rotates at up to 1,200 rpm for turning a part in combination with a static tool in the spindle. As standard, the DMU 60 eVo FD uses ballscrew drives for the X and Y axes (rapid traverse rate: 50 m/min). Optional linear motor drives in X and Y (rapid traverse rate: 80 m/min) offer high speed and acceleration with no loss of positioning accuracy and require less maintenance. DMG believes the DMU 60 eVo FD is the most compact machine in its class, having a footprint of 6.1 m2, regardless of the size of the tool magazine (up to 120 pockets). Spindle speeds range from 14,000 to 24,000 rpm. Additional machine options such as a pallet changer expand the scope of DMU 60 eVo FD applications.
