D-series cermet grades from WNT boost performance

WNT’s range of cermet inserts has been enhanced with the arrival of grades for turning and milling. The latest D-series cermets combine Dragonskin CVD coating technology with established substrates to create a nano-layer coated insert.

WNT has used its Dragonskin multi-layer Al2O3 nano-coating that sits on top of a base layer of Ti (C,N) that protects the cermet substrate. This is said to eliminate the formation of micro-cracks between layers.

DCC1110 cermet turning inserts are available with either negative or positive geometry. The negative NF12 is suitable for fine finishing applications across a range of materials, while there are two positive geometries: PF14, which is aimed at fine finishing operations in steel and stainless steel; and PF15, which is more suited to finishing and medium machining applications.

For milling, WNT has introduced DCX1220 and DPX1225, which join DCC1210 to cover all steel milling operations applicable to cermet technology.
