Brother Speedio R450X1 VMC available from Whitehouse

In its quest to reduce non-cutting time to zero, the Japanese manufacturer, Brother, has introduced a new, vertical-spindle machining centre on which the 2.9-second pallet change, X- and Y-axis movements, indexer rotation and tool change take place simultaneously. Called Speedio R450X1, the 30-taper machine is available through sole UK agent, Whitehouse Machine Tools.

Linear axis movements are 450, 320, and 305 mm in X, Y and Z, with 50 m/min rapids and up to 30 m/min cutting feed rate. The working envelope has been increased with jig area enlargement to make the machine applicable to a wider scope of applications, including turning components up to 1.1 m in diameter. CAE analysis has increased rigidity by more than 15% compared with the preceding model, while a 10,000 rpm spindle motor with a maximum torque of 40 Nm is available as standard.
