Bandsaw advances cutting speeds to new levels

The Behringer HBM400 SC (Speed Cutting) machine, available through Kaltenbach in the UK, is claimed to outperform any other bandsaw with its cutting speed.

Using Speed Cutting technology, the HBM400 SC bandsaw advances cutting speeds up to 7 times faster than conventional bandsaws, achieving ultra high-performance, automatic, precision straight-cutting of all solid metals, up to 400 mm diameter or 400 by 400 mm in section. Conventional bandsawing machines, using a bimetal blade, will typically cut 150 mm diameter, 16MnCr5 material, at a rate of 80 cm²/min taking about 150 seconds per cut; with a TCT (tungsten-carbide-tipped) blade, a rate of 130 cm²/min is typical. The HBM400 SC, will make the same cut at 500 cm²/min and take just 21 seconds. The saw has evolved through development of the HBM high performance bandsaw range and the ongoing maximising of performance potential, offered by advances in bandsaw blades and Behringer's machine technology. The HBM400 SC utilises a specially developed, thinner bandsaw blade, just 1.1 mm thick. This reduces the cutting force per tooth and, importantly, achieves a much narrower kerf of only 1.7 mm, compared to typical industry norms, which enables significant financial savings in waste material management. The fully-enclosed sound attenuating design, of the vibration-free machine, achieves very quiet operation, even under high-speed operation. Particular attention has been given to the efficient removal of swarf, with chips transported directly into a chip conveyor and then a removable container. Many machine options are available, including automated input gripper-feed and measuring system. The HBM400 SC operating system can also be configured to integrate with other plant processes seamlessly.
