XYZ Machine Tools reports MACH 2014 as "the best exhibition in its 30-year history", with orders taken during the five day exhibition "exceeding all expectations".

Add to that the fact that "orders are continuing to arrive on a daily basis" and the Burlescombe, Devon-based company says it is looking forward to a record-breaking year as well. "The response to our attendance at MACH has been fantastic, if they had shut the doors at the end of Tuesday we would have been more than happy with the business we had done," says Nigel Atherton, managing director, XYZ Machine Tools. "By the end of the week, we had taken almost 600 enquiries - 200 of which were described as hot - with the staff back at the office working non-stop to fulfil the requests for information. With firm orders for 26 machines, with a value in excess of £1.1 million, this is our best result ever from a MACH exhibition, in what is our 30th anniversary year." And immediately after the exhibition closed there were further orders that were directly attributable to MACH. The total sales immediately after the two-day Easter break stood at 44 machines, valued at more than £1.54 million. "These figures are amazing, and reflect the hard work that our team put in to making our stand a success at MACH and also the high levels of business confidence that is out there among the UK manufacturing companies," Mr Atherton adds. "With the continued effort that our sales team will be putting in during the coming weeks, we can only expect that the 200 hot enquiries will deliver even more sales, in what was already looking to be a record year for the business." The two new machines unveiled at the show. The first was the XYZ XL780 heavy duty lathe, which bridges the gap between the SLX range of lathes and the larger XYZ XL and oil country lathes, with its 780 mm swing and 3,000 mm bed length, with control provided by a Siemens 828D control with Shopturn conversational programming software. The second new machine was the concept XYZ 2op that has been developed to support cellular manufacturing within small to medium sized machine shops at relatively low cost, with the added flexibility of the machine being portable. Having a footprint of only 750 by 1,200 mm and an 8- station ATC, the first XYZ 2op machines will be delivered later this year, but demonstrations are available now, says XYZ.
