Walter UK tool grinder sales surge ahead

UK sales of Walter 5-axis tool grinders for the first nine months of this year are already some 25 per cent ahead of the total 2006 order intake.

This figure includes the first installations of the Helitronic Vision model, reports Körber Schleifring UK of Honiley near Kenilworth. Tool grinding productivity gains of up to 50 per cent are promised with the Helitronic Vision via, for example, direct drive systems to all five axes that permit rapid traverse speeds of 50 m/min in the linear X, Y and Z axes, coupled with gearless direct drive to the rotary A and C axes. Accommodating rotary HSS and carbide tools from 3 mm to 320 mm diameter and up to 370 mm long for length/contour grinding and 300 mm long for length/face grinding, the machine features a rigid 100 mm diameter grinding spindle with 30 kW motor having spindle speeds up to 12,000 rpm.
